I'll DRINK TO THAT
The average England fan will drink 48 pints of beer and shell out #350 during the month-long World Cup, it emerged yesterday (Sun).
A study found the typical bloke will tune in to every minute of 16 games - including all of the matches featuring Fabio Capello's team - viewing seven at home and nine in the pub.
He can expect to shell out at least #29 on food and drinks while watching each game in the comfort of the local boozer.
And then fork out another #67 for food, snacks and beer or wine while watching games at home on the sofa.
Another #37 will be spent on take-aways during the tournament as supporters head home from the pub.
Tim Bailey, spokesperson for Continental Tyres, who carried out the study among 4,000 England fans who plan to tune into the World Cup this summer, said: ''It is clear that dedicated fans will plan ahead to ensure they get the most out of the World Cup.
''Football fever has gripped the nation and there's real excitement that Capello's boys can go all the way.
''There's so much expectation on the shoulders of our players but they have a whole army of loyal supporters wishing them all the luck and cheering them on - with mates either at home, at work or in the pub.
''With fans travelling during the tournament to watch matches with friends and family, we recommend checking your car before you set off to avoid delays or the hassle of breakdown which might mean missing the big game.
''As an official 2010 FIFA World Cup sponsor, Continental Tyres understands just how big the tournament is how much it means to fans.''
Researchers also found more than half (55 per cent) of those polled will stockpile food and drink for their house to consume during the tournament.
They will travel 63 miles - or around seven miles per game - in total during the tournament to watch matches at the pub or a house belonging to a friend or family member.
The average fan can expect to drink three pints per game as well as two cups of tea. They will also consume two packets of crisps, two biscuits, one sandwich and one chocolate bar.
One in five fans will treat themselves to a burger, but a greedy one in twenty will have two.
Two thirds will have a sausage roll during each match, while four in ten will opt for a packet of peanuts.
A quarter will buy a kebab and half will have a portion of chips during the 90 minutes.
One in six has saved for a couple of months so they can spoil themselves with treats - most will spend at least #17 on World Cup merchandise.
One in ten will even splash out and average of #252 on a new television to watch the big games.
The typical fan will also generally watch the game with three mates and more than half reckon they will socialise more during the World Cup than at any other time in the year.
One in fifty will go as far as getting a patriotic tattoo.
