KIDDING YOURSELF
Four in 10 kids would rather receive expensive Christmas presents than spend time with Mum and Dad, it was revealed yesterday (Sun).
A new study has revealed that 13 million British children would prefer to receive a new games console, puppy or bike than undivided attention from their parents.
More than half of those polled said the very best thing about Christmas is seeing what presents are under the tree when they wake up.
And the most popular toys rivalling mum and dad's attention include computer games, an mp3 player or Lego.
But 45 per cent admitted that having both mum and dad with them all day also makes Christmas special.
And the poll of 2,000 kids, to mark the launch of the pre-school TV show Waybuloo on DVD, also revealed that in an ideal world, nine out of 10 kids would like to get loads of really expensive presents as well as all day with their parents.
And 91 per cent love the fact their parents don't have to work at Christmas, meaning they get their attention all day if they want it.
A spokesman for Waybuloo said: ''Asking kids whether they'd like to have really expensive presents or time with mum and dad is a really tricky one, after all, what child is going to refuse a toy they have wanted for ages and ages.
''Luckily the majority of children see their parents all the time, which is why they take their attentions for granted rather than appreciating all the hours their parents put in.
''We're sure if kids gave it more thought they would choose their mum and dad over computer games and ponies or puppies any day.
''This research proves that although kids think of presents when they think about Christmas, they do also notice when mum and dad aren't able to give them as much attention, so getting more of that at Christmas will make for a truly happy festive season.
''This is why the holiday period is so valuable for families, as it encourages us all to drop our other commitments and be together with the people we love.
''We hope that parents will truly embrace the Waybuloo philosophy that everything is better together and have a magical Christmas.''
The study also revealed that 51 per cent of children think Mum is the best at giving cuddles.
But 43 per cent say Dad is the most popular choice when it comes to making up games.
