MUM OF A KIND

The average mum is a multi-tasking genius who carries out the roles of 23 different professions, a study revealed yesterday (Weds).

Researchers found modern mothers have to be a cleaner, entertainer, chef and accountant, as well as travel agent, teacher and chamber maid.

On top of that they also have to have skills as a first-aider, dog walker, chauffeur and hairdresser.

The study by Chessington World of Adventures also found the average mum works more than 13 hours a day while the kids are off school, getting out of bed at 7.16am and finally switching off at 8.41pm.

A spokesman for the theme park said: ''As the end of the school holidays draw near, it is understandable that Mums are flagging following longer days than most who have a full-time job.

''The nation's mums work so hard and have to juggle so many things at once.

''They try to keep on top of everything, without rocking the boat and they end up doing the tasks of 23 people which would ordinarily be full time jobs in themselves.

''They have to turn their hand to everything - from ferrying the kids around or booking the holiday, to keeping them occupied with a painting brush or making the bed.

''It's amazing how they fit it all in to one day, which explains why they have such little time to themselves to unwind.

''But it's unfair they sometime receive little thanks or don't have enough help, that means the school term might be a welcome break for them.''

The nationwide study of 2,500 mums quizzed them on the roles - many of which are full-time jobs in themselves - they carry out during the school holidays.

Among the other back-breaking tasks which emerged were landscape gardener, waitress, counsellor and personal shopper.

They also turn their hands to a bit of project managing - making sure the kids are occupied all day every day - artists - painting with the kids - and security guard to keep the children safe.

It also emerged more than half of mums reckon they don't get enough help during the holidays, with six in ten wishing their partner got stuck in a bit more.

Three quarters reckon their husband would struggle to fit as many things into one day as they manage on a daily basis.

And two thirds admit they're 'completely exhausted' for much of the school holidays with seven in ten saying they deserve a well-earned break when the kids return to school.

It also emerged they will look after at least three other children each week during the month and half long holiday.

Although two thirds of worn out mums can't wait for the kids to head back to the classroom, a third admit they'll miss the company and them running riot around the house.

Working their knuckles to the bone means the average mum enjoys just 42 minutes to themselves at the end of the day to unwind before they nod off on the sofa.
