St Vincent and The Grenadines

technology free holiday

4th January, 2012

A holiday company has unveiled a perfect New Year product for busy executives – a technology-free break in the Caribbean.

The ‘de-tech’ holiday aims to wean people off technology by sending them to resorts with no TVs in the rooms and one island where use of iphones or laptops on beaches is banned.
A pre-departure session with a life coach is included, plus a booklet giving advice and tips on how to ditch the technology on holiday and regain some control of your life.
The break is the brainchild of the St Vincent and The Grenadines Tourism Authority and involves a week-long trip to two of their private island resorts.
But the well-earned break from information superhighway doesn’t come cheap – with prices from £2,967 per person based on two-sharing.
Or, for the full de-tech experience, you can take a life coach with you for an additional £8,943.
Yesterday, a spokesman for St Vincent and The Grenadines said: ”People come to St Vincent and The Grenadines to really switch off and unwind.
”We’re just helping them take it a step further and to reclaim their lives from the 24/7 demands of technology.
”The pace of life and natural beauty of our country make it very conducive to enjoying where you are and who you’re with, rather than worrying about what you should be doing at home.”
The seven night holiday includes three nights at Young Island and four nights at Palm Island in St Vincent and The Grenadines on a full-board basis.
It also includes flights, private transfers including a private catamaran transfer between islands, a printed version of the de-tech guide to take with you and a one-hour session with a life-coach before leaving.
The holiday was launched after a consumer survey revealed 77 per cent of people believe that time without gadgets and technology would liberate them.
A similar number said it would improve their relationships, make them a better person and even give them more time for their loved ones.
Furthermore one in four said they spend more than five hours a day using technology, including mobiles.
And almost 41 per cent agree or strongly agree that their use of gadgets and technology puts stress on their personal relationships.
It’s bookable through bespoke holiday company Black Tomato, www.blacktomato.co.uk
