Geberit Toilets
blokes escape to the toilet
Half of British men admit they regularly hide in the bathroom – just to escape a nagging partner, it emerged yesterday.
Dads trying to escape hyperactive kids or wives on the warpath are also likely to be found taking time out in the toilet, a study of 2,000 people revealed.
Rather than use the bathroom for its obvious purposes, nearly half of blokes admit they take sanctuary playing games on their phone, listening to sports commentary or relaxing to music.
The bathroom has become a haven for stressed out men and one in ten can be found taking time out to avoid his partners’ friends or avoid watching soaps and reality television, whilst a third of guys use it as a place to calm down.
The study, which was commissioned by luxury WC brand Geberit AquaClean, found that one in ten British men slink away to the lavatory to make a private call or check their social networks, while a third whip out their mobile phone and play games.
Raffaela De Vittorio, Business Manager for Geberit AquaClean, said: ”It’s interesting to think that the bathroom plays a bigger role in the throes of hectic modern life.
”It seems it’s the last stronghold for guaranteed peace and quiet – which is increasingly hard to find for many people.
”This is why we have created the Geberit AquaClean the toilet that gently washes you clean with a jet of warm water- giving a total sense of clean and well-being.
”There’s nothing wrong with taking some time to yourself when you can and it’s good to see men do that – as long as they make sure their partner gets the chance to have a break too.”
The study found sometimes the man of the house needs to retire to safer ground, as one in four confessed they often just sit down in the bathroom and enjoy the silence.
A quarter of men described their time in the toilet as the most peaceful part of their day – and sixty per cent didn’t feel they get enough time to be on their own.
One third of toilet-dwelling men said it was great to be able to shut off from the world.
Other secret lavatory behaviours include watching sports quietly on the Internet, doing a crossword or Sudoku, while some guys confessed to giving themselves a confidence boosting pep talk.
But wives and girlfriends don’t always approve of the extended toilet breaks – twenty per cent of blokes said they’d been told off for taking too long and over a third confessed they spend more time in the toilet than their partner.
Half of blokes say the bathroom is the only place they can be sure of getting absolute privacy and the one room where they can hide behind a locked door.
And girls, check your bathrooms, because a sneaky one in ten guys say they have something they hide in there just for their secret breaks.
The hidden artefacts included cigarette packets for that crafty puff out the window – while some men hide magazines and the more sweet-toothed hide chocolate or sweets.
Raffaela De Vittorio added: ”People are taking the time to make the most of a tranquil environment when they can.”
