Sugar for Mayor…

Apparently, Sir Alan Sugar has been asked to stand for London Mayor.

According to a Labour party source, The Apprentice star is seen as a rival to Boris Johnson when he stands for re-election in 2012.

It is also hoped he would stop Labour’s former mayor, Ken Livingstone, from standing again.

And I think they could be right. I mean, who would want to stand against the mighty Sir Alan?

The multi-millionaire has won over millions of fans thanks to his no-nonsense, hard-nosed approach on the BBC reality TV show.

With his ‘You’re fired’ answer to any work even slightly below par, Sir Alan could be the boost the politics world needs.

For starters, he knows how it feels to be one of the little people who go out to work every day and still struggle to make ends meet.

While most politicians were in private school and leading a privileged life, Sir Alan was growing up in a council flat in Hackney, East London.

Will Sir Alan be hired?

Will Sir Alan be hired?

After leaving school at the age of 16, he sold car aerials and electricals goods out of a van, which he had bought with his £100 savings.

His journey from this tiny business to the huge empire he has today also proves he’s not afraid of hard work.

He could even save his campaign team a job thanks to his already popular profile that is sure to reel in the voters.

And while people might argue that he is too showbiz for the serious job of London Mayor, I think this could actually be a good thing.

How many people can honestly say they knew who was in the running for the job at the last election?

Sir Alan could change that, and what’s more, he could even make it cool to be interested.

He’s got my vote.
